If you can tear yourself away from the bar or your sunbed, |
Following are just few choices: |
|
Buy traditional Kenyan handicrafts - carved soapstone, wood, beaded items, baskets and cloth. Buy from the local town market or curio market, where you will have to bargain hard or buy some of the better quality items sold by the local boutiques. You can also choose custom-made suede shoes, swimwear, and beautifully designed furniture in local styles, or have a dress copied in local fabric. You will want to buy a kanga, kitenge, or kikoi to wrap over your bathing suit. |
If you have time, include a cruise in your itinerary! An arab dhow plies the waters of Mida Creek. You can have a long lunch cruise with barbeque on a mangrove island, or a "sundowner" cruise in late afternoon until sunset. |
|
Crocodile Farm-Snake Farm is open every day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a special feeding of the crocodiles on Wednesday and Friday at 4:00 pm. View a variety of poisonous and nonpoisonous snakes, while learning more about their habits. |

|
The Malindi resort area is a fashinating place to explore. |
There is a glorious variety of butterflies, and for birdwatchers, the forest is very special. There are 230 species of birds, including six found only here: the Sukoke scops owl, Sukoke pipit, Amanu sunbird, Clark's weaver, East Coast akalt and Spotted ground thrush. |
Just half a day to meet the people and to observe the customs, usages and local traditions. Then visit to a typical village and a tribal dance school. |

We move on to the facinating Gede, the ruins of a thirteenth to seventeenth century Arab-African town. The town was a medieval Swahili settlement, walled, covering about 1/4 of a square kilometer. |
